"Good robot. Now get your ass in the kitchen."
I really don't want this website to turn into a links site, but I just read another insightful article in my opinion really worth the read. It isn't a bad future idea. The other articles Marshall Brain wrote on the robot stuff aren't really thoroughly thought through in my opinion, but here he proposes a seemingly good idea. It's novel, it's not illogical, and it's the best economic idea I've read so far. Of course, it's a general idea more than specifics, so try to not accentuate the details too much in your head. Just go here, and read and think carefully:
Robots are going to eat you and then take your job.
(minus the eating part)
But still, people need to do something and feel worthwhile to stay civil. My suspicion: government and scientific programs in the future will become a periodic source of income for many.
